Acidic
body or acidosis is a condition when the body fluids contain too much acids and
it occurs when the kidneys and lungs are unable to keep our body pH in balance,
A lower pH means that your blood is more acidic while up means that the blood
is more basic, according the American Association for Clinical Chemistry
(AACC), 7.35 is acidosis while 7.45 up is alkalosis.
We
have two types of acidosis, each with various causes and they are categorized
either respiratory or metabolic acidosis, depending on the primary cause of
your acidosis.
Respiratory
acidosis results when too much carbon dioxide builds up in the body due to
chronic airway condition, injury to the chest, obesity, sedative misuse,
overuse of alcohol, too much processed foods, foods that have much acidic
contents, “However; Metabolic acidosis results due to lack of enough insulin which
enhances ketones to build up and acidify your blood (diabetic acidosis), and
when the kidney is unable excrete acids into the urine (renal tubular
acidosis).
Symptoms
of acidosis range from minor to severe health complications if neglected;
Fatigue,
drowsiness, confusion, internal hotness of the body, shortness of breath, lack
of appetite, hormonal disorder, weak erection, frequent increase of yeast
infection, sluggish digestion and chronic allergies.
If
you noticed that you have problems with acidity, make changes to your diet,
some foods are acidic and their pH level ranged from 4.6 or lower. You may
lower this foods consumption because they tend to increase acidity; grains,
sugars, some dairy products, fresh meats and processed meats such as turkey and
corn beef, processed foods, sodas and sweetened beverages.
Be
conscious of your pH level when eating this fruits, from the Food Safety and Health department at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They are listed from most acidic to least;
Lemon juice (pH: 2.00–2.35)
limes
(pH: 2.00–2.80)
plums
(pH: 2.80–3.40),
Grapefruits
(pH: 3.00–3.75)
pineapples
(pH:3.20–4.00)
apples
(pH:3.30–4.00)
Mangoes
(pH: 3.40–4.80)
Oranges (pH:
3.69–4.34)
Tomatoes
(pH: 4.30–4.90)
Most
fruits that do not worsen upper digestive symptoms are good to eat regularly
and they reduce chronic heart disease regardless their natural acidity,
generally citrus fruits have a low pH which implies that they are acidic and
may increase symptoms in those with upper gastrointestinal issues like reflux
and ulcer.
Vegetables are generally not
considered acidic;
sauerkraut
(pH: 3.30–3.60)
cabbage
(pH: 5.30–6.60)
corn
(pH: 5.90–7.50)
corn mushrooms (pH:
6.00–6.70)
collard
(pH: 6.50–7.50)
alkalizing
(or neutral) foods and beverages you can incorporate into your diet include:
Soy,
such as miso, soy beans, tofu, tempeh, unsweetened yogurt and milk, most fresh
vegetables, including potatoes, most fruits, herbs and spices, excluding salt,
mustard and nutmeg, some whole grains, such as millet, quinoa, and amaranth,
